Thank you for the question on pregnancy of women, “If every person is destined to be born, why do women ovulate 12 times per year? Why not ovulate 3 times in your life, if you’re destined to have 3 kids?”

Here are some thoughts for one’s consideration:

A. No couple knows in advance how many children or gender of that child a woman may have in her lifetime. The question presumes that God reveals how the number of children a married couple is to have, their gender, and time in their lives. This is not the case. No one knows how many children a man and woman are to have until that child is born.

B. God has revealed that it is his will for Adam and Eve, especially their descendants to have children. Genesis 1:28 says this, “God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground” (A searchable online Bible in over 150 versions and 50 languages). The purpose of having children was to have a godly legacy and their children to be caretaker of earth and all the animals in it.

C. The woman’s ovulation is not just for pregnancy but for intimacy. God made man and woman with passion for each other. This passion is expressed in sexual intimacy between a couple.

D. The woman’s ovulation of 12 times a year is to allow the man and woman to have more opportunities to have children, if they wish to have more children. Not every couple is prepared to be parents and the timing of having children is something a man and woman has to consider in their ability to care and provide for the family. Thus wisdom is needed. In our modern culture, preventative means of becoming pregnant is a personal decision by that man and woman.

E. God is omniscience. He knows how many children a man and wife will have, their gender and at what stage of their life. God has a plan for each person and the way a person lives out their lives will fulfill God’s purposes and plan.

SUMMARY: God has not revealed to humans the number of children each man and woman will have in their lives. This is unfolded as they become sexually intimate with each other when she realizes that she is pregnant.
