Thank you for the question, “In order to achieve a perfect understanding of the Bible and what it meant to say originally, what language should I learn, Hebrew or Aramaic?”
It is an illusion to think that one can achieve perfect understanding of the Bible. The rabbi’s who study the Old Testament and know the Old Testament with all its various interpretation do not necessary agree to its interpretation.
If one thinks of Nicodemus, Saul of Tarsus who studied to be a Pharisee, knew Hebrew taught by Gamaliel would have different interpretation of the Old Testament passages. One can have a good understanding of the Bible, but never a perfect understanding for each person has a tendency to read into or interpret the text according to one’s viewpoint. For example, Isaiah 53, is this referring to a person, to Israel, or to the Messiah?
The Holy Spirit is the teacher. When a believer submits him/herself to God, the Spirit of God will give that person greater understanding of the text. The only person who has a perfect understanding of the text is Jesus.
SUMMARY: Learning Hebrew and Greek will help a person to understand the Biblical text better, but it does not lead to a perfect understanding of the text.
