Thank you for the question on the infallibility of Scripture, “How do you decide the Bible is infallible and all other scriptures are false?”
Before I share my thoughts on this question, the comparison of the Bible with other religious literatures does not mean that there is an absence of any truth in their teachings. For example most religions teaches or advocates loving one neighbor as oneself. This may be a universal truth for most cultures. Thus in there is some truth in all religions in varying degrees, but I believe the Bible is both infallible and inerrant.
For me, the underlying assumption and belief is the self-existent of an eternal, Supreme Creator God who is both transcendent and imminent. The nature of God is that he is holy and righteous, omnipotent, omniscience, omnipresent as well as gracious and compassion. A fundamental belief is God is truthful and consistent It would be reasonable to think that the Creator God would leave imprints of his creative works and his communication with his creatures. This would be either by natural revelation and or by divine revelation.
Part of the process in ascertaining the truthfulness of any religious literature is its claim of authority from God, the message from God, and the consistency of that message of God. Thus it calls upon every Christian to study the Scriptures, to be honest with the text, to study history and science. If God is real and truthful, then science and history will eventually affirm the Scriptures.
There are persons who states that the worldwide Flood never happen and yet how do one explain finding sea life on top of every mountain in the world from Mount Everest to the Andes or even to the Rocky Mountains. Subduction or tectonic shifts only lifts what is there on the surface of the earth or beneath the earth on the ocean floor. With the discovery of potential body of waters in the crust of the earth, may provide some credence to the Flood as the Scriptures records that the earth burst forth its waters and recede into the earth. The verdict is not settled by science and history that there is no worldwide Flood.
As one compares religious literatures, the Creator God would be consistent with his message. One has to carefully read and understand what other religious leaders are saying is from God or from their enlightenment. The Creator God states the test of a prophet in Deuteronomy 13 and 18.
Deuteronomy 13 says this, “If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a sign or wonder, 2 and if the sign or wonder spoken of takes place, and the prophet says, “Let us follow other gods” (gods you have not known) “and let us worship them,” 3 you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The LORD your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul. 4 It is the LORD your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him. 5 That prophet or dreamer must be put to death for inciting rebellion against the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. That prophet or dreamer tried to turn you from the way the LORD your God commanded you to follow. You must purge the evil from among you” (A searchable online Bible in over 150 versions and 50 languages).
Deuteronomy 18 says this, “14 The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so. 15 The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him. 16 For this is what you asked of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the LORD our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.”
17 The LORD said to me: “What they say is good. 18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him. 19 I myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name. 20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death.” 21 You may say to yourselves, “How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD?” 22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed” (NIV).
II Timothy 3:16–17 and II Peter 1:16–21 asserts that the Scriptures are from God, not self-originated by men. In other words, the Creator God states that his revealed words can’t be contradicted by another prophet or spokesman who claims to be a prophet from God. God declares that he is holy and truthful. He does not contradict himself.
SUMMARY: The Creator God doesn’t contradict his own words and works that is observed or read by man.
