Thank you for the question of serving in a church, “Does your Bible college’s denomination matter when getting hired at a church?”
In our 21st century, more and more churches are willing to call a minister who graduated from Bible colleges or seminaries that have some doctrinal differences between churches, seminaries, and the graduates.
With a lack of minister’s today, more churches are willing to consider someone who didn’t graduate from their denominational seminary. I know of seminary graduates who were called to serve in Reformed Churches, Episcopalian Churches, and even Greek Orthodox Churches.
Churches are looking for the most qualified candidates. The Search Committee and or denomination may require the pastor to enroll in certain theological or biblical classes of their denomination. The called pastor must be convinced in his or her own heart whether those doctrinal differences are such a major doctrinal issues that may prohibit some of them to apply or accept a call from a denomination.
SUMMARY: Churches prefer a seminary graduate from their own denomination but will consider the most qualified candidate for that position.
