Read John 1:29-31. Circle the word that stand out to you. Consider, what God is revealing and saying to you about those words?
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.”

Have you ever said this to yourself, “What? I didn’t know that!” This person seems like any other ordinary person and yet there was something to him or her. I have met people who served meals during lunch and then learned they were very wealthy. I met people who worked with youth and he was a Vice President over a banking division. There something more to that person that meets the eyes.
John the Baptist declared that he was the forerunner announcing the coming of the Lord. He even stated that he was unworthy even to untie his sandals. Someone great and powerful was coming after him. And then, he sees Jesus coming and makes a startling, unexpected statement, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!” I would have thought that he would have said, “Behold, the Messiah who reigns over Israel!” John says Jesus is the Messiah, but He also He declared the He is The Lamb of God. The cross must come before the throne. What a startling revelation to John.
As neighbors and coworkers see you and me, is there something that they don’t know about us? Can one of them say, “Behold, a Christian, a follower of Jesus!” That would be the greatest compliment that you and I can receive as Christians. I hope people will know you more than your title at work but more so for you character as a follower of Jesus. I have been called “pastor”, “loving husband” even a “handyman” but I hope that I will be remembered as a follower of Jesus? What about you?
