Read John 1:40-42. Circle the words that stand out to you. What is the Lord revealing and saying to you?
40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus.
Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter).

What was the most exciting news that you want to tell others? Was it your engagement? Was it the birth of your first child? Was it the promotion or being approved to buy your first home? For me, the greatest news was the birth of my daughter and son. I felt such wonderful joy holding each of them and I could wait to tell others.
The Scripture is silent as to what Jesus said to Andrew and the other disciples, but Andrew was filled with excitement. The first thing that he did was to tell his older brother, Simon. He couldn’t stop sharing what he heard and learned from meeting Jesus. Andrew concluded that we have found the Messiah. He doesn’t say, “We think we found the Messiah.” He is confident that he has found the Messiah. However Simon wasn’t impressed with his younger brother’s assertion. I wonder what Simon felt and thought after meeting Jesus and Jesus calling him Cephas. As one reads the Gospels, each person who met Jesus had their lives changed if they had an opened heart.
If Jesus was to ask you, “What do you want?” what would you say to Him? Would you ask for “things”, a happier life or more about Him? If you spent the day with Him, would you request change at the end of the day or would it remain the same? If we open our hearts to Jesus, He will fill your “cup” if you would spend the time with Him. He won’t be the same once you met Jesus.
