Thank you for the question on the nature of Christ, “If all flesh is with sin which would be characteristic of the flesh, then did the Word of God become flesh, or did He become sinless flesh, which would indicate the distinction between sinful flesh and sinless flesh?”
Here are some thoughts on the nature of Jesus Christ:
- The marriage and union of Joseph and Mary didn’t conceive the Son of God. If Jesus was born from the union of Joseph and Mary, Jesus would be born with a sin nature or the propensity to sin. He would have inherited the sin nature from Adam and Eve.
- Scripture declares that the Holy Spirit came upon Mary whereby she was able to conceive the Son of God. The conception of Jesus in Mary’s womb by the Holy Spirit allowed Jesus to have a fleshy body. In that sense he is fully man without the sin nature of both Adam and Eve. It is liken to the physical body of Adam and Eve before they sinned. Jesus could be tempted to sin as he was in the Wilderness for 40 days by the Devil.
- Scripture indicates that Jesus had a body as a man. Phil. 2 says this, “5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature[a] God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature[b] of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!” (NIV). The Spirit of God worked supernaturally in Mary so that she would conceive a male baby without the sin nature.
The thought that one must keep in mind that the sin nature is a foreign element that has invaded the human bodies. That sin nature will be removed from our new spiritual body one day.
Christians do not have to choose to sin. They are free from the control of sin over them only if they submit/yield to the Holy Spirit who lives in them. He is the One who gives them the power to resist sin and to live a holy life. Christians are not sinless, but they should be sinning less in their lives.
Is there such a thing as a “sinless” flesh? I would say, “Yes”, since Adam and Eve were created without sin and Jesus lived a sinless life on earth. The term without the sin nature would be equivalent to your usage of “sinless” flesh.
I hope this helps.
