Thank you for the question on God’s existence, “Why do priests/pastors get upset when someone asks how we know God exists? Is it because, deep down, they know there’s no way to prove it?”
For one’s consideration, may I share a perspective on one’s question:
A. No human being including a pastor/priest can demand that appear at his/her command.
B. No human being including a pastor/priest can demand that show some miraculous acts at his/her command.
C. No human being can examine God with any physical instruments since God is spirit, not a material entity.
D. Human beings have observed the vastness and intricacies of the Universe and of Earth. Cosmologists propose that the Universe perpetually existed by itself or through the Big Bang Theory. If one can accept self-existence of the Universe, why can’t one also accept the self-existence of God for the Universe?
E. Christians can testify or attribute the personal transformation or provision by God in their own lives. Yes, it is subjective and one can say it is all coincidental or accidental.
F. Christians believe that they can have fellowship with God, a personal encounter with God through his Spirit who lives in them. Is it delusional or is it real? Is it purely emotionalism or is it based something much deeper as to “one’s spirit”?
SUMMARY: The proof of God’s existence is one’s own encounter with God. God says that if a person seeks him wholeheartedly, he will be found by that person. That’s a challenge worthwhile exploring.
