Thank you for the question on the evidence for Noah’s Flood, “Is there any evidence that Noah’s flood ever occurred?”
The arguments for a world wide flood and the arguments against a world wide flood has been debated through the centuries and even more intensely in the last 100 years.
I offer two thoughts on whether a world wide flood is possible. The two thoughts doesn’t prove that there was a Noah’s Flood, but it does demonstrate that there was a world wide flood.
A. The discovery of sea shells on every mountain top except volcanoes.
Geologists have found sea shells on Mount Everest, the Andies, the Rockies. The presence of sea life would reflect at some point in the earth’s history that the landmass was once beneath the ocean waters. This is not disputed but it does not prove there was a Noah’s Flood. It only reflects that it the earth was beneath the ocean waters otherwise there wouldn’t be seashells on mountain tops.
The bible describes there was a rising of the land mass from the ocean floor which geologists call tectonic shifts.
B. The recent discovery of body(ies) of water beneath the earth’s crust would or may confirm that the biblical narrative that the waters were released from the springs of the earth.
Previous the argument has been that there isn’t enough water on earth to submerge the earth. The discovery of water in the earth’s crust shows that there may be more in the earth’s crust than on the surface of the earth. Research is still continuing in this area.
The argument against Noah’s flood is the present height of our mountains makes it impossible to be covered with water. The assumption is that the present height of the mountains was the at the time of Noah. This may not be the case.
Geologist has confirm that the landmass was once one and that it was a tropical climate. This infers to some extent that the mountains were lower. The cause of the uplifting of the landmass is through the tectonic shift.
The whole point is that one can say that the landmass was beneath the ocean waters and through tectonic shifts the ocean floor was uplifted. If the landmass was once beneath the ocean water, can it happen again?
Further research on formations of canyons may shed light whether there was some sudden draining of the waters over the surface of the earth. Is there any evidence? There appears to be there was some source of water that cover the surface of the earth before the landmass appeared or reappeared, depending on one’s view. Is it Noah’s Flood? That is debated.
