Thank you for the question on Bible reading, “Is it a sin to not read the Bible every day?”
It is not a sin to forget or at times neglect to read and mediate on the Scriptures. Just as our body needs physical food every day, so we also need spiritual food every day.
Jesus says in Matt. 4:4 that man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
Can I survive without physical food for a day? Yes. We will begin to feel the effects on our body. Continual neglect of the Word will also have a negative effect on our heart, mind, and spirit. Reading and meditating on God’s Words nourishes us, guides us, and even corrects us (II Tim. 3:16–17).
For Church leaders, being in the Word is an imperative. The Spirit of God speaks to us through the Word, through his people, and at time even through our circumstances. Having the Word hidden or treasured in our hearts may keep us from sinning against God and others. It’s wanting to be more like Jesus every day of our life.
Summary: If one wants to be like Jesus in one’s attitude and actions, then being in the Word and living out the Word is essential.
