Old Testament

Thank you for the question on Leviticus 10:1–2, “According to Leviticus 10:1-2, two sons of Aaron were consumed by fire from the presence of the Lord for their unholy worship practice. What were their names?”

Leviticus 10 says this, “Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added incense; and they offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, contrary to his command. 2 So fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the Lord. 3 Moses then said to Aaron, “This is what the LORD spoke of when he said: “‘Among those who approach me I will be proved holy; in the sight of all the people I will be honored” (NIV).

The names of two Aaron’s sons who died are Nadab and Abihu. The Leviticus priests learned from the death of Nadab and Abihu that God is most holy and those who approach him must be holy by following his commands. Failure to obey God may bring swift judgment.

The death of Nadab and Abihu may seem capricious and cruel. The lesson for all who approach God needs to be holy and right before God. Disobedience and sin is not tolerated by God. Thus, one ought to be careful in not trampling in the court or in the presence of God.
