Thank you for the question on reading the Bible, “Is it acceptable for a Christian to read only the New Testament?”
The answer is clear to any Christian. It is not acceptable for a Christian to read only the New Testament. Reading the New Testament is like reading the last chapter of the book. The beginning chapters gives the context of the last chapter of the book.
In order for one to understand the Bible one has to read both the Old Testament and the New Testament. The questions and statements of the New Testaments becomes clearer when one reads and understands the Old Testament. The references to creation, the Fall of mankind, Noah, Abraham and the Patriarchs, David, etc, are more fully appreciated when one understands the events that are cited in the New Testament.
Summary: If one wants to know the Creator and the plan of God, one needs to read both the Old Testament and the New Testament otherwise the story is incomplete in one’s mind.
