Thank you for the application question on a must-read chapter and verse of the Bible, “Which chapter and verse of the Bible is a must-read, and why?”

The must-read chapter for Christians is Romans 8. Of course, one must read the preceding chapters to fully appreciate Romans 8 and the subsequent chapters.

Here are some thoughts why one must read Romans 8:

  1. The Assurance of salvation for the believer (Rom. 8:1–2)
  2. The work of Jesus Christ in redeeming and freeing sinful man (Rom. 8:3–4)
  3. The victory over the sinful nature for the believer (Rom. 8:5–17)
  4. The fullness of our salvation at the return of Jesus Christ (Rom. 8:18–25)
  5. The answered prayer through the Holy Spirit in our behalf (Rom. 8:26–27)
  6. The affirmation of the sovereign plan of God for the believer’s redemption (Rom. 8:28-36)
  7. The inseparable love of God for believers (Rom. 8:37–39)

As one ponders this chapter, Romans 8 comforts the believers in this life, knowing that God has a wonderful plan for the believer. All that happens to a believer is to mature him/her in becoming more like Jesus Christ and that position of being a child of God will be fully realized at the return of Jesus Christ. This chapter addresses every need of the believer. It gives or states the resources God has given the believer to live a victorious Christian life on earth.

Summary: Knowing the provisions of God is great and appropriating the provisions of God is best. One will experience God personally as one walks with the Spirit of God and seeing God working in and through that believer. It’s the real thing!
