Thank you for the question of unforgiven sins in the Bible, ”What are the un-forgiven sins in the Bible?”
All sins are forgivable except for one but that doesn’t mean the avoidance of the penalty of sin. There is a thought that forgiveness of sins means the removal of consequences. One can be forgiven of one’s sins and yet has to face the consequences or effects of that sin.
In the Old Testament, there are sins whereby a person who violates the Law suffers the penalty of breaking the Law. The suffering of the penalty for that sin does not necessarily mean the loss of salvation. It means that person wouldn’t be able to enjoy the blessing of God for living in the Promised Land.
Here are some sins that are unforgivable according to the Old Testament Law for living in the Promised Land. Note carefully, that the Law is for Jewish people but may also apply to Canaanites who are living in the Promised Land.
One may read Leviticus 20 on the Punishments for Sins as titled by the NIV. I cite some of the Law:
Leviticus 20: 1–5 says this, “The LORD said to Moses, 2 “Say to the Israelites: ‘Any Israelite or any foreigner residing in Israel who sacrifices any of his children to Molek is to be put to death. The members of the community are to stone him. 3 I myself will set my face against him and will cut him off from his people; for by sacrificing his children to Molek, he has defiled my sanctuary and profaned my holy name. 4 If the members of the community close their eyes when that man sacrifices one of his children to Molek and if they fail to put him to death, 5 I myself will set my face against him and his family and will cut them off from their people together with all who follow him in prostituting themselves to Mole” (NIV). Citations are from the NIV Bible.
Leviticus 20:10 says this, “‘If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress are to be put to death.”
Leviticus 20:27,says this, “‘A man or woman who is a medium or spiritist among you must be put to death. You are to stone them; their blood will be on their own heads.’”
One may ask, “Why is there no forgiveness for those sins?” The reason for the severity of the death penalty is to reflect the sanctity of image of God in each person and the undivided heart of worship toward God.
If a sacrifice could atone for sin, then the rich person will be immune of any punishment. He could defile another man’s wife and just bring a sacrifice for that sin. By setting the Law, whether rich or poor, the persons who commits adultery faces the death penalty. The rich person could not buy his forgiveness of sins against the husband.
To consult another deity or demon is to insult the character of God and the priest who are to discern the will of God for the person. One can read that David went to the priest for guidance, not a spiritist or medium. To consult another deity is to place another deity before the Creator God.
Remember, the Mosaic Law is for the Jewish people. If a person who is not a Jew enters or lives in Promised Land was under the obligation of the nationalistic or religious laws. If a Canaanite living in Gath, the Mosaic Law does not apply to that person. They are not in the Promised Land or is that person a Jew.
If that person violates the national or religious laws of that country, then he will suffer the consequences of their civil law for adultery or murder. In other words, the Old Testament Law does not apply to Americans, Asians, Europeans or any other people group unless a person becomes a Jew.
Summary: Read Leviticus 20 for unforgivable sins for those who lived in the Promised Land.
