Thank you for the question on preaching on First Corinthians, “Why is the First Corinthians so often used for sermons?”
As one reads I Corinthians, this epistle is most relevant to our Post-Modern World for the Christian Church.
Here are the reasons why pastors speak on First Corinthians so often:
A. I Corinthians 13 is one of the greatest passages on loves. Pastors cites that passage as a reminder of true love for wedding couples.
B. I Corinthians 15 is one of the greatest comforting passage. Pastor cites that passage in funeral or memorial services.
C. I Corinthians 11 is one of the greatest celebratory passage. Pastor cites that passage on Communion Sundays.
D. I Corinthians 12–14 is one of the greatest spiritual giftedness. Pastor cites that passage in calling members to serve the Lord.
E. I Corinthians 3 is one of the greatest unity passage for the church. Pastor cites that passage in rallying members to a unify purpose/goal.
F. I Corinthians 7 is one of the greatest passage on grounds for marriage. Pastor cites that passage to remind God’s people and persons to marry.
I Corinthians became of the early church’s manual on church beliefs and practices. The situations listed in I Corinthians is still relevant today especially in our pluralistic society where moralities are subjective to culture and to personal preference.
Personally, I wish that pastors would preach more on I Corinthians in calling their church and churches to unite together to present the Gospel and make disciples without the worrying about membership.
SUMMARY: The Church is the Bride of Christ. Purity and Unity are to be its hallmark.
