Thank you for the question, “How did being born again change how you spend your time?”
Being born again not only changed how I spend my time, but it change my life! It is not purely about amount of time one spends in certain activities, but a change attitude or heart toward the things of this world and towards the things of God.
Yes, I still enjoy watching the news and my favorite programs, but I am reminded that the news and programs do not change my life. In fact, they tend to upset me as I see the distortions or false characterization of Christian beliefs and values. Criminals with their crosses as justifying murder and rape. Priests in collusion with the “devil” or doing devious actions all in the name of God. There’s nothing sacred anymore in our world.
Yes, I spend time helping the church, attending church activities, but I also spend time writing on Quora. The answers given by respondents to questions about the Christian faith are at times adequate and inadequate. It has caused me to become more of an apologist and teacher of the Word. As a retired pastor, perhaps I can contribute to the dialogue on Quora.
Yes, I spend my time caring and helping Christians, but I also try to help non-Christians as well. Currently, I am using some of my weekends to help this non-Christian friend of mine in fixing his home. I don’t push my beliefs on him. He enjoys my company and I enjoy his. I don’t send him a bill for my labor. It is done out of love for him.
Yes, I should pray more and I recently decided to join the Wednesday prayer meeting. It’s informative to know what is happening in the church and the needs of the members. I try to remember to pray for them and to help them if I can.
SUMMARY: I have become, Lord willing, more other centered than self-centered in my life. It is about Christ living his life through me, even through us.
