Theology

Thank you for the question on the Triune God.

The term, Trinity or Triune God is not in the Bible. Those term are a theological designation of the Godhead.

For one’s consideration about the plurality of the Godhead:

A. The Hebrew word for God is “Elohim.”

The word, Elohim, is plural in form, not singular in form. The implication is that there is a plurality within the Godhead.

B. The word, spirit, in Genesis 1 can be translated as a force/wind or a being. The spirit/Spirit comes from God. What the spirit/Spirit is doing at the reformatting of the earth is unclear. The presence is stated.

As one does a word search on spirit/Spirit especially in the Gospel of John, one can observe that the Spirit of God is able to convict people, teach people, can be blasphemy against, reminds Jesus followers, etc. One has to draw his/her conclusion on who or what is the “spirit.”

As to whether the Logos is God or a created being, again I suggest doing a study on the Incarnated Logos. A thought in one’s study of John 1:1–3 is that the Apostle John does not use the word, become or became the Logos, but was God. The Logos became flesh in verse 14. If John want to say that the Logos became a divine being he could have used the verb, became as he did for the Logos became flesh. Again, one has to study the text.

SUMMARY: Believers are called to study the Scriptures.
