Thank you for the question about Genesis, “What is your reflection about Genesis 2:27-34?”
May I suggest that one review the passage of Genesis 2:27–34. The problem is that there are no verses after Genesis 2:25 and in Genesis 1:31 that is the last verse. The chapter is in correct or the verses are incorrect.
Assuming that one is referring to Genesis 1:27–31, I would like to share one main thought for one’s consideration. The dignity and worth of a person are based on humans being created in the image and likeness of God. The dignity and worth of a person are not based on one’s appearance, position or possessions in life.
The social upheaval especially in the United States is that our culture is now basing one’s dignity and worth on appearance, position and or possession in life. The protest and demand for equality based on race or social injustices of the past will not satisfy or rectify the present condition. Even if Congress were to give each African American 1 million dollars, would that erase the past social injustice or would that cause social protest from another group of their injustices? Should the American Indians, Irish, the Chinese, Japanese, Hispanic or women received the same amount as the African-American since they too were discriminated? I do not believe inequality can be solve by financial compensation. The reason is that discrimination is a heart issue of mankind, not a social disorder. Congress can’t print enough money or tax enough to rectify the past nor compensate the social injustices for what people group hasn’t been wrong by another people group. It is an endless cycle and deception. Equality does not come with financial compensation, forgiveness of debt, housing grant, etc for one is dealing with the symptom and not the root cause.
If humans are evolutionary beings, the survival of the fittest is the model to follow. There is no immorality of slavery, internment or destruction of one people group over another people group. The strongest culture determines the social laws for that society or country. In one sense, Nazism can’t be condemn for what makes another culture think that their value is more righteous than others. Please do not mistake me for upholding slavery or Nazism. I oppose it on the bases that humans are made in God’s image and likeness. Without that belief, then everything can be subjective even as Allies defeated the Axis’s Power to determine/impose their value on the defeated nations. One can’t say that the extremist Muslim are evil for we are imposing our value over their value. The country with the greatest power will dictate the terms of morality.
God’s design is to respect each person regardless of their appearance or station in life. The handicapped individuals are not less valuable or valued because of their disability than the Einsteins or stars of this world with their fame and fortune. It is only when one sees another person in the image and likeness of God that we may love our neighbor as ourselves. The positions and possessions of one’s life is to help another human being, not to enslaved or use them to further one’s own personal fame and fortune.
The sad part of our culture that we reject the Biblical value on humans and substitute a social construct of socialism, thinking that will bring equality and peace. If a social contract can be established, then a social contract can be voided and re-written by whoever controls the government.
SUMMARY: Genesis 1:27–31 is foundational to society for it recognizes the supreme worth of a person because every person is made in the image and likeness of God.
