Where does the Bible say Hallelujah is the highest praise?

Christian Living, New Testament

Thank you for the Biblical question regarding Hallelujah, “Where does the Bible say Hallelujah is the highest praise?”

The word, hallelujah, is a declaration of praise or worship of God. Is this the most exalted word in the Bible regarding God?

From the Jewish and Christian perspective, I would think that the word, hallelujah, associated with God is one if not the most exalted word. Our modern vocabulary uses different words to express one’s fullest adoration of God as “My highest Praise” or “My highest Exaltation”.

As to the question itself, I suggest reading Revelation 19. The reason is the context of the word that is being used in the heavenly scene would imply that the word, hallelujah is the best singular word to express one’s feelings toward God or his works.

Revelation 19 says this, “After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting:

“Hallelujah!
Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, 2 for true and just are his judgments. He has condemned the great prostitute who corrupted the earth by her adulteries. He has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”

3 And again they shouted:

“Hallelujah!
The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever.” 4 The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried:

“Amen, Hallelujah!”

5 Then a voice came from the throne, saying: “Praise our God, all you his servants,
you who fear him, both great and small!” 6 Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:

“Hallelujah!
For our Lord God Almighty reigns. 7 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. 8 Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.”

In Revelation 19, four times the word, Hallelujah, is used The context is not on earth, but in heaven. The people or individuals making this exclamation comes from a great multitude in heaven which I believe are both angels and the redeemed saints as well as the twenty-four elders. The first words of praise to God is Hallelujah, and then comes the explanation or reason for the praise to God.

If there was a better word than Hallelujah, I would suppose the multitude of angels and redeemed people would have declared it. If in our modern language, we can invent another word to replace it, it may be considered a synonym. Can there be another word? It is possible but that word, Hallelujah associated with the explanation makes it an excellent word choice.

SUMMARY: The heavenly scene of Revelation 19 makes Hallelujah the most worthy word to use in exalting God.
