Old Testament

Thank you for the question on the animals on Noah’s Ark, “If Noah’s Ark actually happened, what would really occur on that ship?”

A. Respondents on this question has question the floatability of the Ark.

Whatever the largest size of the wooden ship, the Scriptures declared that pitch and tar was used to cover the interior and exterior of the Ark. Would it make it water proof? It would not be leaking as a sieve. There would be some leaking aboard as that would be reasonable. One must also keep in mind that as God was in control of the weather, would it be reasonable to think that God could also keep the Ark afloat? It would be without any difficulty for the Creator God to plug any holes or to allow Noah’s family to plug the holes in the Ark. See Genesis 6:14.

B. Respondents on this question has stated or implied millions of animals were on the Ark.

If one accepts the Biblical description of the animals, one will read that the Creator God. There is a misconception that Noah and his family had to round-up the animals or that he had to find every single insect and animal in the world. The Scriptures states pairs of animals came to Noah to be preserved on the earth. It would be those animals or type of animals that came to Noah to enter the Ark. One must also keep in mind the variation of animals in Noah’s day is not the same as today. Adam named the animals in one day so one wonder whether those types of animals came to Noah’s Ark. See Gen. 7:7–10.

C. Respondents on this question has questioned the food and removal of animal feces aboard the Ark.

The Scriptures states that Noah was to bring food for the animals. One would think that Noah and his family did as God commanded. The animals were in stalls and thus the ship was balanced with animal weight. It does not necessitate that Noah and his family had to removed all the feces by themselves. Could a pulley system be installed in the Ark to lift the food or feces through the Ark? Could animals be used to help remove the feces? It is not outside the realm of possibility.

Were the animal’s seasick aboard the Ark? Likely so unless the Creator God put some of them into a deep sleep just as he put Adam into a sleep so that he can remove a rib to make a help-meet for him. The waves were turbulent as the ocean depths of water were released and from the sky. How high was the Ark from sea level is unknown? By the time the sea level rose to the place of the Ark, one can conjecture that the valleys were flooded and the mountain were slowly covered with water. It may be that the Ark floated on calm waters, not necessarily turbulent waters. One doesn’t know the condition at that time as the Ark was lifted up from the land.

If Noah with his family and perhaps hired workers had the knowledge and skill set to build the Ark, then would one think that he would consider the amount of food and the removal of feces.

SUMMARY: Noah and his family were intelligent and skillful family. God prepared his family, the animals, and the Ark for the inhabitants of the Ark and oversaw their care until they disembarked from the Ark.
