Thank you for the mission implication of Genesis 1 to 11, “What are the mission implications of Genesis chapter 1 to Chapter 11?”
Many pastors cited Genesis 3:15 as the proto-gospel of the coming conflict between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent and the victory of the seed of the woman over the serpent.
I would like to suggest that there the mission implication is more than the famous passage of Genesis 3:15. Here are some thoughts for one’s consideration:
- The plan of God was to create man in God’s image and likeness so that they can have intimate fellowship with each other (1:26–27).
- The plan of God was to test the obedience of man to the command of God in enjoying the fellowship with God (2:15–18).
- The plan of God was to allow man and woman to disobey God and experience of their independence of God (3:1–19).
- The plan of God was to provide a covering for sin through the death of an animal and eternal existence in sin (3:20–24).
- The plan of God was to allow man to experience the knowledge of good and evil in one’s thought and actions that included rampant sin on earth (4:1–5:32).
- The plan of God was to express the grace of God in redeeming a family while judging the sinfulness of man (6:1–9:29).
- The plan of God to bring about the redemption of mankind through the family of Terah (10:1–11:32).
The above outline is a suggestion of God’s unfolding of his redemptive plan for mankind. Man experience the grace of God in the midst of his depravity.
SUMMARY: Genesis 1–11 expresses the plan of God to redeem mankind through one family.
