Thank you for the question on the meaning of everlasting in the Bible, “What does the word everlasting mean in the Bible?”
If I may suggest a distinction between eternal and everlasting for one’s consideration. The word, eternal, reflects without beginning and end. It is continuous existence or self-existence. Only God is eternal as he has no beginning and no end. The word, everlasting, reflects a beginning but no ending.
God created man to live with God forever and forever. Each person is a spirit and although hi/hers body may cease function, his/her spirit continues to live on. Thus man is an everlasting being, but not an eternal being.
Quite often the words, eternal and everlasting, are interchangeable since the emphasis is on the continuation of life.
SUMMARY: Everlasting emphasis a beginning without any ending.
