Thank you for the question on Bible character, “Which character of the Bible shows great emotional strength?”
Apart from Jesus Christ, in the Old Testament I would select either Elijah and Jeremiah. Both Elijah and Jeremiah had to deal with a rebellious king and a rebellious people. God called them to be steadfast in the midst of their own struggles and ill treatment by his own people. In one hand, they were respected and on the other hand they were despised for their messages. Both of these men expressed both emotionalism and emotional strength under duress.
In the New Testament, Thomas and Pontus Pilate. They are two individuals whom we normally wouldn’t select. I chose Thomas for he was able to stand and withstand pressures from the 11 disciples and the women who testified of Jesus’ resurrection. For him to say that he must put his hands into the finger marks and the side of Jesus was no easy task. For Pilate, he didn’t easily givte into the demands of the Jews. He pleaded with them, questioned them as to the reason why they wanted to kill an innocent man. Pilate knew that Jesus was no threat to him so why would he be a threat to the Jews. Jesus had no standing arm except 12 men which couldn’t be viewed as an army. He did everything humanly possible to release Jesus even offering a known seditionist Barabbas. What is amazing that he wrote down the words to the crucified Jesus: The King of the Jews. He didn’t give in to the religious leaders to ask him to change it to that he says that he is a king. Pilate withstood the onslaught until he was given no choice but to condemn Jesus. Yes, he wanted to avoid a riot and to void a bad report to Rome of any unrest. Pilate demonstrated emotional strength in seeking to free an innocent man.
SUMMARY: Emotional strength includes the ability to verbalize ones feelings, if warranted.
