Thank you for the application question, “What is your favorite book/chapter/verse in the Bible? Why do you like it?”

Apart from salvation verses, here are my favorite verses, chapter, and book in the Bible.

My favorite verse for ministry is II Timothy 1:7, “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” Ministry is difficult and it is easy to go with the path of least resistance rather than standing for the truths of Scripture. That verse reminds me that God has made me a capable servant of his that can overcome fear from his power, love and self-discipline through the Holy Spirit.

My favorite chapter is Psalm 23. This Psalm sustained me when my wife had a hemorrhagic stroke and its after effects for the last 22 years of our marriage. I am comforted to know that my Shepherd, Jesus goes ahead of me and leads even through dark valleys to green pastures and still waters. God has demonstrated his faithfulness to us through the various stages of our lives.

My favorite book of the Bible is the Gospel of John. It is here that I gain a personal insight to how Jesus walked and talked to people even in the most trying circumstances of his life. He is the God-Man who also knows what I went through and will go through in the coming years. I’m looking forward to seeing my Savior and Lord.
