Thank you for the question on updating version of the Bible, “Why has the Holy Spirit stopped influencing people to write an update version of the Bible?”
Many Christians believed that the new revelation from God ended with the Apostles in the first century CE.
Here are some thoughts why the Holy Spirit has ceased divine inspiration of the Scriptures:
A. Jesus commanded his disciples to teach everything that he commanded them in Matthew 28:18–20.
The text says this, “Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (NIV).
The apostles and their associates wrote about the life and teaching of Jesus. It is this teaching that the early disciples wanted to share with the new believers and that teaching has been passed to every new believers of generations.
B. The Apostles gave instructions on the founding and development of the early church and its ministry as in Ephesians 4:1-
The text says this, “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
7 But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. 8 This is why it[a] says: “When he ascended on high, he took many captives and gave gifts to his people.”…So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” (NIV).
C. God has already given the believer everything he needs for life and godliness as stated in II Peter 1:3–11.
The text says this, “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins. 10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters,[a] make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (NIV).
As one considers the above passages, the Scriptures declares that what has been revealed is sufficient to enable the Church and the believers to be mature and perfect in Christ Jesus.
Churches and believers throughout the ages had to confront the culture of their days. In my opinion, the Scriptures do not need revision, but rather the churches or believers had deviated from the Scriptures. Would additional revelation from God change anything? Possibly, but as one looks at the history of Israel, God sent them prophet after prophet with messages to his people. God has already revealed his plan for the end of times. God has declared and recorded what he wanted to say to his people. His message is clear, not unclear.
SUMMARY: God has spoken loudly in the Scriptures. Is anyone listening?
