Thank you for the question on ministers, “What for you are the qualities of a priest or pastor that would respond to the present situations?”
I Timothy 3 and Titus 1 state the qualification of church leaders for the church age. The work of the ministry is described in Matthew 28:18–20, Acts 2:42–47, and Ephesians 4:7–16.
For one’s consideration, I would say that we need men and women who are more like John the Baptist. The qualities that we need are as follows:
A. Men and women boldly proclaiming the biblical beliefs and values whether it is popular or not.
B. Men and women unwilling to compromise or distort the biblical beliefs and values.
C. Men and women willing to proclaim his message in public and private settings.
D. Men and women willing to lose their possessions, positions, or even their lives for the biblical beliefs and values.
E. Men and women willing to point others to Jesus Christ, not to himself.
In my opinion, pastors and priests are more afraid of political pressure, wanting cultural acceptance to avoid social protests for upholding biblical beliefs and values. It is safer to keep one “job” by avoiding controversial topics and preaching on non-controversial topics. It is unwise to alienate church members who may leave their church if one is not politically correct.
Churches and believers are called to be salt and light in this world, not decorative lights. Churches are called to make disciples for Jesus Christ, not citizens of this world. Churches and believers are to be unashamed in proclaiming Jesus Christ and the Gospel.
SUMMARY: Churches and pastors need to raise their voice to uphold biblical beliefs and values even though it is an unpopular message within and without the church.
