Thank you for the question on the location of the Garden of Eden, “How come the Bible never discusses the specific dwelling places that Adam and Eve would have lived in before they ate the forbidden fruit and after?”
For your consideration, the Bible does share the dwelling places that Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden.
One must remember that when God created the Garden of Eden, there was no longitude and latitude or GPS site. If God was to give a specific coordinate, no one would know what God is speaking about and the coordinate reading by man may be different from God. The compass wasn’t developed yet so one can’t use compass coordinate. Landmass has shifted. Mapping of the earth haven’t begun so it is not practical to give a specific coordinate.
As the American settlers traveled Westward, the landmark was by mountains, rivers or forest. It was a geographical mapping. In the same way, the Bible does give us some “coordinates” of where the Garden of Eden was located.
Genesis 2 says this, “Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. 9 The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
10 A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. 11 The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin[d] and onyx are also there.) 13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush.[e] 14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates” (NIV).
It is my understanding that the Garden of Eden is within the location of the four headwaters of which we know about two: Tigris and Euphrates. The other two rivers, Pishon and Gihon is debated by scholars as to how or where they flowed. It appears that there was Garden of Eden was the source for the four rivers. It describes the land as having precious minerals and where the rivers flowed. It appears that people knew about those locations then but not now. It’s hard to see on the geological map since the earth crust has shifted over time by tectonic shifts. I haven’t researched it but it may become an interesting project of ancient rivers.
SUMMARY: If one can trace the waterheads geographically, one can estimate the location of the Garden of Eden. The problem is that typography has changed due to tectonic shifts.
