Thank you for the question on the absence of moral laws, “What would society be like if breaking the ten commandments and sinning had always been legal and acceptable?”
It would be likely that most if not all society had some form of government or tribal rules to maintain some order in that community. The values may be different from the Bible, but there would be some values that would be similar to the Bible.
If one wanted to know what a society would be like, one can read the Book of Judges when everyone did what was right in his/her own eyes. There were no national moral rules since nearly everyone ignored the Law of Moses. In the account of Sodom and Gomorrah, there were no restrictions on moral conduct. It was a “red” zone for everyone and anyone entering into that place was “fair game” for the one who finds the visitor into their city.
In our country, we are seeing some reflections of that viewpoint when people want to Defund the Police, abolish prison, free “criminals” without bail or limited penalty, smash and grab, carjacking with immunity, burn and loot, shoot and kill without fear of being captured or jailed. It’s a free for all. If that continues, those with the most power or riches, will defend themselves and live in a community that banishes outsiders. They will live in a gated community, while those outsiders will become either the hunted or the hunter.
Summary: No society can sustain itself in lawlessness. It will a reversion to the caveman mentality of the survival of the fittest.
