Thank you for the question on spirituality, “Can one become, for example, spiritual American, or spiritual English, or spiritual German, or spiritual French, or spiritual Canadian? Maybe, spiritual Israel is different.”

As one reads the question, the adjective or modifying word, spiritual, is critical. It will depend on how one defines “spiritual.”

If one is citing nationality or people group as “spiritual dead people” as Americans, British, Germans, French, Canadians, Palestinians, Chinese, Hispanics, Africans, etc, then the term spiritual would be equally be applied all people groups or nationality that would includes the Jews. Biblically, the Scriptures states that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God so that would include all people groups and nationality. Every people group or nationality are incapable to respond to God or to make themselves acceptable to God. That’s one perspective.

If one is citing nationalities or people group as receiving spiritually having divine revelation from God, then the Jewish people is different. Of all the people group or nationalities, God selected the Jewish people to be the recipient of his divine revelation especially the Torah or the Books of Moses. God didn’t give his covenants and promises to any other ancient civilization as the Egyptians or Mesopotamian cultures. The Torah or the Books of Moses were given to the Jewish people.

If one is citing nationality or people group being receptive to spiritual truths from the Scriptures, then the Jewish people is different. The Apostle Paul states that the Jewish people has and is experiencing a partial hardening of their hearts so that the Gospel/Good News of salvation can be shared with every people people and nationality (Acts 1:8, Matt. 28:18–20).

Romans 11 says this, “I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in, 26 and in this way all Israel will be saved“ (NIV).

SUMMARY: Israel is different from all other people group and nationality in that the Jews have received the Torah from God, while all the people groups and nationality of the worlds are open to the Gospel, but not the Jewish people.
