Thank you for question on the differences between a Christian and a Believer “What are the differences between a Christian and a Believer?”
Normally, the term, Christian, and Believer would be synonymous or interchangeable words. Within the Christian community, there is no differences within the Christian community, but not necessarily in our culture.
For one’s consideration, here are some differences between a “Christian” and a “Believer”. The distinction is subjective. A “believer” is a person who comes to belief that Jesus Christ is one’s Savior and Lord and demonstrates that transformation in one’s life, while a person who says that one is a “Christian” may or may not believe that Jesus Christ is Savior and Lord nor reflect any transformation in one’s life.
- The term, Christian, may be used as a cultural identification for a religious belief, while a believer subscribes to the fundamental beliefs of the Christian faith.
- The term, Christian, may be adopted by a person who was raised in a Christian family, but does not believes or practices the Christian faith, while a believer may or may not be raised in a Christian family who comes to faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and lives the Christian faith.
- The term, Christian, may be used for person who once attended a church or attends occasionally, while a believer who comes to faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and lives the Christian faith.
- The term, Christian, may be attributed to a person who wears a Christian symbol without knowing the belief of that person, while a may be called a “true believer” for observed beliefs and practices.
In other words, the manner in which our culture uses the word, Christian or believer, may or may not reflect the personal belief and practices of that person. The narrower use of the term, believer, may be attributed to a person who believes the fundamentals of the Christian faith and lives out the Christian faith.
SUMMARY: Anyone can say that he is a “Christian” without any evidence in one’s life, while a person who says that one is a “believer” who demonstrates evidence of one’s belief and practices in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
