Thank you for the question on hearing prayers, “Mary cannot hear your prayers. Can you prove me wrong?”
The question being posed appears to be adversary in nature, to prove me wrong. Each person will stand the Lord and give an account of one’s attitudes and actions. Within the Christian faith, one seeks harmony, not dispute, though one has to guard against false doctrine or teaching.
If I may venture an answer to this question. My prayer is directed to the Heavenly Father as Jesus taught his disciples to pray by saying, “Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.” (Matt. 6:9). Throughout the New Testament, the followers of Jesus prayed to God or to the Lord after his resurrection.
Can Old Testaments believers and New Testament believers who has died hear our prayers? I think so. Being able to hear our prayers doesn’t mean that we are to pray to them.
Hebrews 12:1 says this, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart” (NIV).
The writer of Hebrews states that there is a great cloud of witnesses watching us run our race. Can they listen and see us? I interpret that they witness our words, including prayers and our actions. It appears so otherwise they couldn’t be witnesses. I may be wrong.
Having said that, I want to make clear again my own biblical and theological that believers are to pray to the Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ. The Scriptures do not indicate that we are to pray to another believer whether alive or deceased. Having said that, it is likely that our forerunners do see what we are saying and doing on earth. One day we will be witnesses of others who comes after us.
SUMMARY: Believers in the presence of God are watching us run our race on earth.
