Thank you for the Bible reading question, “For someone who has never read the Bible, how would you recommend going about it?”
I suggest that one begins reading in the Gospel of John and the Gospel of Matthew. This will give you an overall view of the Christian beliefs and values.
Upon completion of that, I suggest reading Genesis, Exodus, and Numbers. This will give you an overall view of God’s plan for the Jewish people. They were to become a priesthood of God to the world. Sadly, they became like the nations of the world.
If you finish those five books, I recommend reading Acts for this will give you an understanding of the Church and how they function. The Epistles are further details of the struggles in each of the churches.
Reading Psalms and Proverbs gives one wisdom and encouragement in how to live in this world. Memorize some of the favorite Psalms or Proverbs.
Reading is different from meditating on it. Meditating is stopping to think how is that passage or verses relevant to me. It is allowing the Spirit of God to speak to one’s heart and mind. God uses the Word to transform the heart and mind of a person, even giving a new spiritual birth with a new capacity to understand the trues of God.
SUMMARY: A spiritual journey awaits you as you open the pages of the Bible and open your heart and mind.
