Thank you for the question on remembering things, “Do you ever feel like you’re being programmed when you can repeat a commercial word for word with ease but you never could remember Bible verses?”
Commercials are very attractive for it catches our eyes, our ears, and appeal to our interests. It’s targeted. The 30 second commercial is repeated often enough that our subconscious mind records it and it can be repeated when we see the first few seconds of that commercial. Who hasn’t heard, “State Farm is here” or my favorite is, “I forgive you, but I want to forget you!” My high school graduation song was “Climb Every Mountain.”
Memorizing Bible verses is difficult for all we have is the words, usually without visual aids or hearing it. We say it to ourselves or aloud. We have do not have a constant replay of the memory verse throughout the day. Thus we tend to forget the words over time or have a general idea of what it says.
Perhaps someone can develop an app that will allow Christians to hear the verse of the day or week over their phone or through some other device.
SUMMARY: Subtle messages and overt messages commercial messages bombard us more than spiritual truths.
