Thank you for the question, “How do people become so misguided by the Bible that they refuse to be educated on other topics of creation or science?”
If I may venture to say that one’s observation of Christians or those attending churches that they are ignorant on other topics of creation or science is an over generalization.
Many Christians have a general knowledge of science. My friends are college graduates and some of them have their masters and even doctorate degrees. I am quite certain that they have taken physics, biology, chemistry, history, etc while in college or in an university.
As one reads the Bible, it is the Bible that first declared micro-evolution in Genesis 1. The rise of lower form to higher form is first stated by the Bible. The debate is the timeline. The Bible is the first to mention about surgery and the construction of a person from the rib of Adam. Our technology is on the verge with stem cells and DNA/RNA replication. The thought of growing body parts is not that far fetch. The Scriptural description of the earth has some confirmation by geologists that there is a body of ocean/water in the crust of the earth that may be equal to the oceans today.
As a Christian, many are reading on archaeological discovery as Gobekil Tepe which predates the Pyramids or even Stonehenge or the archaeological discoveries in Israel that gives some evidence of a kingdom in Israel and not just a tribal people. You do have a good point that more Christians and even Churches ought to have conferences to discuss broad topics that relates to our world. With the internet, there is no excuse for Christians or even atheists to be more educated on the various views. Christian debates with atheists are readily available on the internet and writings of atheists and Christian apologists are easily accessible.
I don’t agree with your assumption that if one reads beyond the Bible that one will come to a rejection of the Bible. Listening to debates is very enlightening and reading research papers by Christians and non-Christians are also helpful. Personally, I don’t believe science doesn’t contradict the Scriptures but complements it. Others will disagree with me and that is fine. That is what discussion is all about in the exchange of thoughts.
