Thank you for the question on the atheists’ attitude Bible believing Christians, “Why are some atheists condescending toward those who believe in the Bible?”
The answer to the above question can only be answered by an atheist if one is willing to share their reasons. In fairness on the flip side of the coin, one can ask the same question regarding Christians have their attitudes about the atheist’s belief in evolution.
From my reading and responding to some atheists, here are some possible reasons why they have a diminished view of Bible believing Christians:
A. There are times when Christians do not address the question being asked sufficiently or by-pass the question all together.
B. There are some atheists who believe that Christians are ignorant of scientific facts or refusal to acknowledge the scientific facts as the age of the Universe.
C. There are some atheists who were “Christians” but became disillusioned because pastors and teachers aren’t able to address their questions satisfactory or that their experience with God proves faulty for them. They don’t experience God or the abundant life so they think that Christians are delusional or deceived.
D. There are some atheists who thinks that Christians aren’t honest in dealing with the Biblical text in its “contradictions” as in the resurrection differences.
E. There are some atheists who haven’t encounter a “genuine” Christian without the hypocrisy of believing one thing and living in a totally different way. They are looking for the authentic thing and Christians haven’t displayed it.
There may be other reasons why atheists have a diminished view of Bible believing Christians. I would imagine even the atheists would have respected Billy Graham, Ravi Zacharias or Dan Wallace for their character and knowledge of the Bible. Sadly today, most Christians do not take their faith seriously. It is their father’s faith but not their own. Additionally, it is the fault of the church leadership for failing to address the current topics today or have a conference to address those topics. Christians are too lazy to do their due diligence while wanting to be fed by someone else. The fault lies not with the atheists. The fault lies with the Christians for we are to be the witnesses in this world being relevant to the world. We are the Salt and Light of this world, but we rather become Sugar and Cream for this world.
SUMMARY: Christians have failed to address the questions that atheists are asking and compounded that with inconsistent lifestyles.
