New Testament, Theology

Thank you for the question of time, “If a day is like to a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day for the lord, why did he create time in the first place?

As I think about the question of time, God is the Alpha and the Omega the Beginning and the End. In the eternal state, time is irrelevant nor measured. There is no past, present or future. He is and he can be in any dimension since he is not bound by creation.

I give my personal opinion since no one truly knows why God created “time.” This is conjecture on my part.

A. God did not “create” time. Time implies aging. God doesn’t age so there is no time within God.

B. God created the Universe to display his glory. The ability to perceive the glory of God means an origination of something from nothingness. The moment of the creation of the Universe came with “time” or aging of substance.

C. God created humans with ability to observe the glory of God and his presence. Time reflects the beauty of creation as he observes the heavens and earth. Humans is able to see the goodness of God with time on earth and the endless time as he observes the heavens. It appears that the heavens do not age as man does not outlive the heavens.

D. God in the re-formatting the heavens and the earth will be timeless as there will be no sunrise or sunset. The glory of God will be the endless light whereby time will cease.

Revelations 22 says this, “I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. 25 On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there” (NIV).

SUMMARY: The creation of the Universe came with time so that humans can perceive the Creator God.
