Thank you for the application question, “How has your faith in the Bible blessed your life?”

My faith is not in the Bible but in the Creator God of the Bible. I trust in His Words because God is holy, righteous, and immutable. What God has promised He has obligated Himself to fulfill it. The promises of God are true and truthful.

For Christians, Jesus Christ didn’t promise his followers that they will be blessed with health and wealth, with security and fame. Those who truly follow Jesus Christ will face persecution and suffering. Jesus declared for his followers that in this world they will have trials/troubles for if the people in his time persecuted him so today his followers will be persecuted for his name sake. Nevertheless in one’s suffering and trials, there are blessings that is beyond material blessings to spiritual blessings that awaits his followers. There are crowns awaiting us and the commendation given by our God for our steadfastness and faithfulness to our God.

Here are the blessings that I have and am receiving from my trust in my God:

A. My faith in God has given me peace and assurance in this world. I know that I will not be judged or condemned for my sins since my Savior, Jesus Christ paid the penalty for my sins. I know when I closed my eyes for the last time on earth that I will open my eyes and see my dear Savior, Jesus Christ. I will also see my family and friends in heaven. We will have a lot to share about the grace of God in our lives throughout eternity.

B. My faith in God has allowed me to experience a new transformed character and lifestyle in Jesus Christ. I once was a depressed, angry even a hateful person. Because I experienced the love of God and the transforming work of the Holy Spirit of God in my life, I learn to forgive and to be compassionate to others. I am a new creation in Christ Jesus, whereby the old is gone and the new have come. The renewing of my mind allowed me to perceive life from God’s perspective and life a life that glorifies my God and my Savior. I don’t spend my days hating, but feeling sad for those in bondage of sin and desiring that that they be set free from their wanton lifestyle.

C. My faith in God has allowed me to experience the protection and provision of God. After I came to know Jesus Christ as my personal Savior, I experienced God’s provision for me as in the company that I was working for had a tuition assistance program that paid for my seminary education. I experienced God’s divine guidance when I was a day late in arriving in Dallas. I didn’t have the phone number or address of the family that I was to stay at in Dallas. As I parked our U Haul truck on the curb to walk to the Student Center, a person came up to me and ask if I was Kingston. I said that I am and he introduced himself to me. We stayed in his apartment that first night in Dallas. An accident or coincidence by chance? Was the Good Shepherd leading the way for me to attend seminary and seeing me through seminary? Those are only a few examples of God’s faithfulness and provision for myself and my family. I have seen the goodness of God in my life.

D. My faith in my God has seen me through dark valleys in my family. My wife suffered a hemorrhagic stroke, gone through depression including suicide attempts. I know what it is like to be a caregiver and the emotional and spiritual strain on my life. It’s been over 20 years. Life hasn’t been easy these last 20 years and yet God has allowed us to enjoy a degree of happiness and life in our travels, with our children and grandchildren, with our siblings, and with our friends since high school days. We are in our early 70’s. I do not know what lies ahead for us, but I believe the Good Shepherd lead us as Psalm 23 declares. I have experience that Psalm for it is more than a memorized Psalm of the Bible.

E. My faith in my God has allowed me experience his power in my life. It is not my power or strength to walk through the valleys of my life and in the ministries that I have served in. It is not my wisdom that I answered Quora’s questions. It is not my personal righteousness that God hears and answers my prayers. I have experienced to some extent the filling of the Spirit of God and his power in my life. The Scriptures declares that every believer can experience the filling and empowerment of the Spirit of God in their lives. To walk in the Light as He is the Light brings great inner joy as well as sensing the Spirit of God guiding one’s actions and enabling that person to fulfill the will of God (Eph. 2:8–10).

The Christian life is the most incredible life that one can experience in this life. It is not about wealth or health, not titles and entitlements. To step outside of oneself, if I may use that phrase, and to allow God to work in and through that person is the most incredible experience that one can have in this life. Once you have experience it for oneself, one is thankful and grateful to God for the grace in one’s life. It is what He has done and not what one has done in this life.

SUMMARY: The depth and height of experiencing God is only limited by oneself.
