Thank you for the question, “Is there a part of the Bible that you focus on reading the most?”
There are two books of the Bible that I focus on reading and studying the most. They are Genesis and the Gospel of John. Here are my reasons for choosing those two books:
A. Genesis is vital to the foundation of my belief in God. Agnostic and atheists challenged this book for its contradiction and inconsistencies as to the name of God, the two accounts of creation, the “talking” serpent, the longevity of humans, the Flood, and the origin of Abraham in contrast to science and the archaeological or geological evidences.
As I have read answers from Christians or comments from other writers, I find quite often the answers given circumvent the question or is answerly poorly in my opinion. Christians are put in the defensive and seemingly without any answers at all. It is my goal to seek to provide an answer, not necessarily the definitive answer, to their question or comment that gives pause and consideration to the biblical text. I seek to read about archaeological discoveries and scientific reports that may contribute to my understanding in Genesis. Reading on archaeological discoveries is essential in one’s defense of the Scriptures.
B. The Gospel of John is vital to the foundation of the Christ-centered life. The Gospel of John explores the person of Jesus Christ and the offers that he makes to me and to the whole world. As a Christian, I need to know what did Jesus say and do in his life so that I can explain it well to others. If I don’t know him, I can’t share him with others. As the Apostle Paul declared that he want to know him and I want to know my Savior and Lord more intimately.
Paul’s words echo the desire of every Christian in Philippians 3, “But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. 10 I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead” (A searchable online Bible in over 150 versions and 50 languages).
For me to know Jesus is to read the Gospels and how he interacted with his disciples and with the people. I trust that Revelations 3:20 is not a theory but may become a reality in my own life.
SUMMARY: The Scriptures has great treasures to be discovered if one would invest the time in the Word. Let’s do it instead of putting our time on playing games on our phones. Satan wants to make us ineffective Christians by distracting us from what is truly important in life.
