Thank you for the question on obeying the commandments, “Does strictly adhering to the Commandments lead to an improvement in life because you make better choices by becoming a better person?”
Whether one is a Christian or non-Christian, there are benefits in following the Commandments of God. Having said that, the Old Testament Laws were written for the Jewish people who had a faith in their God. It is unlikely that a non-believer in God will follow the Commandments of God to be in fellowship with God since that person does not have a personal relationship with God.
If a person has a personal relationship with God, then the following of the commandment will make that person a better person.
A. The person who honors God is sincere in his faith in God.
B. The person who honors God is honest with one’s own thoughts and feelings.
C. The person who honors God is consistent with his talk and walk with others.
D. The person who honors God is considerate and compassionate in his conversations and dealings with others.
E. The person who honors God will be respect by many individuals for his/her integrity.
F. The person who honors God will be bless by God both spiritually and likely materially.
G. The person who honors God knows that salvation is not by works but by faith in God in his message of life in the Son of the Living God, Jesus Christ.
SUMMARY: The person who obeys the commands is a better person, but that does not mean that one is a godly person unless one has a transformed heart and spirit by the Spirit of God.
