Old Testament

Thank you for the question on the patriarch who led his family into Egypt, “Genesis 46:26 tells of sixty-six people leaving Canaan and going to Egypt. The sixty-four people constituted the family led by an elderly patriarch. Who was the patriarch?”

To be honest, I am confused as to why you are asking that question. Is there something more to your question or is it that you do not know who the elderly patriarch is?

I don’t mean to be rude or mean that if you can identify the elderly patriarch, you would certainly be able to recognize the father of the 66 people leaving Canaan. Am I right or am I missing something?

Giving you the benefit of the doubt, please read Genesis 46:1–7 and you will find the name, Jacob is mentioned five times.

If your question implies how can a family of 70 individuals populate to 600,000 men which means that over 2 million people left Egypt, please state it as such.

SUMMARY: Jacob was his given name at birth, but God also gave him a new name, Israel. Jacob and Israel are the same person.
